Our Story
A Message From Melissa
I have spent a lot of time thinking about the future of The Devoted Barn. I've had a lot of questions for myself, do I have the strength to continue, do I have the will, passion, and desire to continue?
Those are very hard questions for me to ask myself.
Having been under fire for the last couple years, it gave me pause, but not for too long, because working with our animals every day, I knew the answer.
Of course, we continue.
Of course, we will fight.
We learn from mistakes made, we fight when we need to fight and we make it better for our residents, current and future. We have not given up the fight over the property in Holly, we will continue that because what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong and we are, at minimum, owed a lot of money. But we also can't dwell on that, we have a lot of animals that depend on us.
At this time, we have successfully closed on a new property, a permanent home for our animals and organization. They need a permanent home, and our organization needs to get back to thriving like it always has.
What’s so great about this property? Glad you asked!
All ordinances and zoning work with our mission, which has been verified with the attorneys.
The price is feasible, and it will cut our monthly expenses in half.
Our mortgage through a traditional lender was approved and the appraisal has been done.
This is a very exciting time for us, especially our animals. Since closing on the property, we can focus on raising money for daily expenses. Between saving money for the new property and continuing to care for our animals, our funds have struggled. Some days I didn’t know if I’d be able to pay for a day’s worth of grain and shavings, so I’d have to ask you, the supporters, to help with these expenses; because of you and those supporters, we would raise just enough to get us through the day. Now, since closing on the new property, I’m hopeful that we won’t be able to worry about day-to-day expenses for our animals.
Thank you so much for your continued support. We appreciate each one of you and we are grateful to be able to have the opportunity to provide a safe haven for these amazing animals.

Non-profit Information
The Devoted Barn is a program of Devoted Friends Animal Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the lives of the companion animals we love. Devoted Friends Animal Society received its 501(c)3 non-profit status in 2010. The mission of DFAS is to help companion animals like dogs, cats, and equine find their forever homes. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption, DFAS commits to the animals for their entire lives.
The Devoted Barn is an animal rescue and rehabilitation facility. We take in animals of all kinds from cruelty, neglect, and large scale hoarding cases. We help animals that are unowned and/or that need urgent medical attention. We also have a large feral dog program. These animals come to The Devoted Barn to heal both physically and emotionally. They learn to trust and love again, or for the first time.
